Appearance: Mairon is capable of shapeshifting but typically long red/gold hair (that can sometimes shift to lava-looking depending on his mood), gold or red eyes. He’s tall (at least 6 feet) and lightly muscled. He also has freckles everywhere. Everywhere.
I go by Valinwhore’s design for Mairon mostly
History: Mairon was one of the Ainur responsible for creating Arda, though lesser in power. When the world was created and Ilúvatar showed them all a vision of what they had made, he chose to be among those that descended into the world to shape it.
On Arda, Mairon was one of Aulë’s maia, working in his forges and using his power over fire to excel in his work. Among the maia, Mairon was one of the most powerful aside from Eönwë. This did not go unnoticed by Melkor who sought to corrupt and seduce him into his service.
It didn’t work though, Mairon remained loyal to Aulë and stayed in Valinor, forcing Melkor to look to other (unnamed) maia. Frequently he would visit Middle Earth though, in disguise, curious to see the Children there and meet Aulë’s dwarves.
Personality: Mairon is intelligent, clever and creative. He helped to create the world so he is powerful too but he’s also ambitious. And that ambition can be preyed on. Even so, Mairon remains a loyal servant who values order in most, if not all, things. Who he is servant to depends on the way he is treated or nurtured though it would take a bit of work to change his loyalty.
Mairon can also be patient. Sometimes. Being a maia of fire, his temper can sometimes be triggered pretty destructively but it isn’t always easy to make him lose his temper. He doesn’t like wasting time but neither does he put less effort into something because someone tests his patience. He will stop entirely though when it seems as if all the effort is coming from him.
He’s also fairly open, his inexperience with other races and his ‘youth’ is obvious, and honest. Mairon is innocent too, he can’t really conceive the thought that he’d hurt other people. He doesn’t want to and won’t if he can ever help it. He trusts in the other Valar completely and tries to believe the best in those he knows.
Abilities:
- Shapeshifting (into birds and other creatures or simply changing his appearance. He typically sticks to his default appearance though because he is young and has no reason to hide who he is) Restriction: Wolf, Raven, and Snake. As well as Mairon's lava hair thing.
- Fire abilities, he’s a fire maia and works in Aulë’s forges so he can summon and use fire without burning himself and sometimes turns into a complete person-shaped fire or his hair turns to lava when he’s angry.
- Immortal, not even destroying his body would really kill him and he doesn’t age.
- Strength, he’s stronger than elves or Men.
- Craftsmanship, Mairon works in Aulë’s forge so he can create weapons, armor, jewelry and other things. And as one of the greatest of the maia, his works are practically incomparable.
- Telepathy, he can speak mentally to others.
Inventory: A set of tools from Aulë’s forge (unbreakable), an apron and a pair of gold fire opal armbands he’d been making. Plus his silver and blue robes under his apron.
Anything else: Whatever else seems important and didn't find a place elsewhere.
